Sydney has always been the perfect base to discover the vineyards and cellar doors of the wine industry of New South Wales.

But over the past couple of decades a beer revolution has been happening right across Australia. Micro-breweries have been setting up all over the nation, producing craft beers of a high quality and standard.

Sydney is no exception, and there are some fantastic local brewers producing high quality product that have all got a fabulous tale to tell. In this blog we look at some of the great breweries that are dotted in and around the city, perfect for brewery tours.

Organizing a brewery tour for your group is easy with First Choice Charters as they are Sydney’s premier bus hire and coach charter company. Their local drivers know exactly where to find the best breweries in Sydney and can arrange a tailor made tour just for your group, then you can sit back and enjoy the tour not having to worry about driving.

Lord Nelson Brewery

Located in the historic Rocks area you can find Sydney’s oldest licensed hotel and the home of Australia’s oldest pub brewery.

The brewery is famous for award winning natural ales, brewed using only the four horsemen of perfect brewing, namely: malt, hops, yeast and water. There is no added sugars, preservatives or additives, thus ensuring a truly natural beer.

The Lord Nelson Brewery has been making fine beers and ales for over twenty five years, with a definite leaning towards English Ale. The mash tun is in the hotel’s cellar, then the ales are fermented in the brewery at the rear of the bar, before being sent to the taps in the bar.

4 Pines Brewing Company

The 4 Pines Brewery was born after a father and son were fed up with the mediocre beer and lack of choice of decent ales in Sydney.

They set about to create craft beers that were to be brewed with natural ingredients and actually tasted of something. Their beers can be found in the Truck Bar Brookvale, Underground Manley, Beer & Bread Belrose and the Public House Newport.

Their award winning beers include Indian Summer Ale, Kolsch, American Amber Ale, Pale Ale, Hefeweizen, E.S.B and Stout.

Young Henrys Brewery

Founded in the Sydney’s inner west, Young Henrys was founded in the hope of adding a hint of adventure and innovation to Sydney’s beer scene, and is a great place to visit during their Saturday afternoon tours.

Young Henrys brew Real Ale, Natural Unfiltered Lager, Dark Hoppy Ale, Farmhouse Cloudy Cider and Newtowner Australian Pale Ale. Their tasting bar is open seven days a week, and beer is served straight from the tank to your glass, beer does not get fresher than this. There are six taps and two hand pumps pouring the core range as well as some seasonal one offs.
